Navigating Middle Class Financial Strain: The Impact of Inflationary Pressures in South Asia on Children
Question
  • Apr 2024
In South Asia, the middle class grapples with a formidable challenge: navigating the financial strains imposed by an inflationary environment while safeguarding the well-being of their children. As prices surge and the cost of living escalates, families find themselves squeezed between aspirations for a better future and the harsh realities of economic instability. This delicate balancing act not only affects the financial stability of households but also casts a shadow over the future prospects of the younger generation. From access to quality education and healthcare to ensuring adequate nutrition and overall well-being, the impact of inflation on children within middle-class families is profound and far-reaching. Despite their resilience and resourcefulness, middle-class families in South Asia face an uphill battle against rising prices and stagnant incomes. The inflationary pressures exacerbate existing financial burdens, forcing families to make tough choices and sacrifices, often at the expense of their children's opportunities and happiness. Against this backdrop, understanding the nuanced dynamics of middle-class financial pressures in South Asia and their toll on children is crucial. It sheds light on the complex interplay between economic factors and social outcomes, prompting a deeper exploration of policy interventions, community support systems, and grassroots initiatives aimed at alleviating the burdens faced by families and ensuring a brighter future for the region's youth.

Is the Academic Arena safe for Marginalized Academics
Question
  • Jul 2021
I have had to accommodate, be patient, and silent when having to address issues pertaining to gender, sexuality, social class, im/migration, dis/abilities etc. because my faculty has shown that it is safer to preserve the emotional and financial needs of the status quo. Recently Nikole Hannah-Jones was denied tenure because of her excellent opus on the American Black Slavery experiment and democracy. She recently stated that she wasn't sure if marginalized persons should be in mainstream academia due to the unsafe nature that persons like her and myself face.
Question: Can the current academic structure still support critical inquiry? Should we consider an alternative to scientific research outside the academy?

Type of analysis for 3x3 not fully crossed design?
Question
  • Oct 2017
I am analyzing data with a 3 (race: black, white, none) x 3 (social class: wealthy, poor, none), not fully crossed, within-group design (with continuous DV). There are 8 groups (wealthy black, wealthy white, poor black, poor white, only white, only black, only wealthy, only poor). Originally, I was analyzing group differences using several t-tests. However, because I'd ideally like to look at a race/class interaction, I thought of using ANOVA. Is this appropriate given there is no race-none, class-none group (i.e., design is not fully crossed)?

What could be the appropriate research methodology to analyze middle class as a driver of growth; consumption pattern and empirical forecast ?
Question
  • Nov 2019
My research trajectory: Analyzing Pakistan's middle class as a driver of growth; consumption pattern and empirical forecast.
I am badly stuck with devising research methodology due to lack of comprehensive work in Pakistan.
My query : What pointer you would suggest as a starting point? or Cobb–Douglas production function (Solow) is preferable in case of Pakistan? when availability of data is a major constraint, also I find this function bit difficult, so any alternative research methodology?
