I prepared a structured questionnaire, which inquires who people have complied with the advice and guidelines of the WHO and the government authorities; how are they affected psychologically, how do they economically cope to the current crisis, etc. So far, I have got a response from randomly selected participants. What is a profession ? What is a professional group ?
Question
  • Feb 2012
Is a professional group a social group ? For example, is it similar to groups like "lower-class", or not ? What are the differences, for example, between the class of lawyers and what may be called "middle-class" ? I'm working within linguistics about the question of diastratic variation, and we do not make any clear difference between all of these phenomena. Diastratic variation is the social-dependant variation of language. But, intuitively, it seems clear that many phenomena hide behind such a wide definition.

How to decide between a categorial or quantitative variable?
Question
  • Apr 2019
I have a dataset with two variables that measure subjective self-definition of class. One is categorical (categories working class, middle class, upper class) while the other is quantitative (self-location in a 1-5 scale)
Is there a statistical test that I can perform to analyze the convergence and divergence between the two measures? I also have a relevant independent variable, so I could see wich dependent performs better in terms of the independent. What test could I use for that given that one is categorical and the other is quantitative?

Any advice on intersectionality and correctional risk/needs assessments?
Question
  • Nov 2015
Some argue that risk/needs assessments are predictive for everyone, others say that there should be instruments that take gender into account because women have unique needs, different then mens'. But what about race and/or class? We can't assume that a while, middle class female offender will have the same risk factors/needs as an African-American, lower class female offender, can we? Should risk/needs assessments take intersectionality into account in their development and administration?
