In employing the same method of inference affirmed and partly pioneered by the fathers of evolution theory (mainly by Darwin and Wallace), i.e. the historical or abductive method that infers to the best explanation from multiple competing hypotheses, ID seems to have acquired more confirmations after the recent advancements of biological sciences - especially from epigenetics - and the outcomes of genomics and molecular biology research - with specific reference to the recent "ENCODE" project, to mention one of the main examples.
Through its formulations we have answers to many problems posed by neo-darwinian explanations of past events (cambrian explosion, macro transitions and speciation in limited times, contradictions from phylogenetic relationships, the apperarance of mental capabilities in humans, etc.).
So, does ID have the credentials as a theory offering a reliable scientific alternative to the most controversial aspects of evolution, a theory capable of 'filling the gaps' imposed by the methodological naturalism bounds of modern synthesis, and can it further represents a credible solution to the unsolved conundrums of origin of life research?
