宮沢賢治一族と真宗大谷派の僧、近角常観との間には密接な関係があった。近角の布教の本拠地であった求道会館から発見された、宮沢一族からの二十通の書簡は、その具体的な関係をよく示している。その書状の中で、とくに賢治の妹トシ発の二通の書簡が注目に値する。真宗の信仰を獲ることができないという悩みを、彼女が告白しているからである。賢治が真宗の信者から法華経の行者になったとき、トシはいち早く賢治にしたがった。この書状の存在から、今後は、賢治からトシへの一方的感化があっただけではなく、トシの中に存在していた精神的空白に
