تناولت الدراسة الحديث عن المحيط الاطلسي(بحر الظلمات الغربي) في التراث الجغرافي الاسلامي،وهي محاولة لاستقصاء معارف الحضارة الاسلامية عن هذا المحيط ونهايته الغربية التي ظلت مجهولة حتى العصور الحديثة،حين بدات حركة الكشوف الجغرافية التي كانت المعارف الاسلامية جزءا اساسيا ساهم في استكشاف العالم الجديد.
بقي هذا المحيط يشكل هاجسا مخيفا في كتابات الجغرافية...
