Purpose This study aims to examine how the political career concerns of top executives affect corporate environmental practices. Design/methodology/approach Based on rent-seeking theory, this work uses empirical analysis to investigate the impact of top executives’ political connection and political promotion on corporate environmental information disclosure (EID). Data were collected from Chinese listed firms in heavily polluting industries in the Shanghai Stock Market in 2014–2016. Findings The results reveal that the highly politically connected top executives are more likely to be promoted in their political positions than their counterparts. However, the firms under the management of these highly politically connected executives show low level of EID. The results suggest that the political motivations of top executives with political connection hinders corporate EID. Originality/value This paper extends literature system about the impact of executives' rent-seeking on corporate EID by examining the informal mechanisms in terms of political connection and political promotion. It provides insights for studies of corporate environmental strategies and governmental environmental responsibility.

Interest in eco-innovation in the corporate environment has grown considerably in recent years. Given the profound role of eco-innovation, it is therefore important to obtain a better understanding on the latest research progress in the academia and the recent organizational efforts in practice. This review paper addresses this need and contributes to the current literature in three ways. First, this paper presents a descriptive overview on eco-innovation in the corporate environment by examining 395 representative articles published from 2006 to 2015, collected from the Social Citation Index Expanded and Social Sciences Citation Index databases. The characteristics of the terminologies and journals, prevailing themes and changes, the geographical location of prolific authors and main geographical context of research studies in eco-innovation are identified to unravel the evolution of the concerned research studies and institutional contexts. Second, by using co-word and social network analyses, this study finds that the current literature on eco-innovation in the corporate environment is mainly focused on nine areas, including the influence of stakeholders, drivers of eco-innovation, eco-innovation systems, eco-design, new product developments, product service systems, environmental management systems, green supply chain management, and performance & small medium enterprises (SMEs). Third, this study provides an extended conceptual framework that incorporates the notion of ‘driver→source→position→performance’ (D→S→P→P) to find the relationships among the research topics in the eco-innovation field. This framework allows examination of the overall strategies for eco-innovation in the corporate environment so that a firm can gain a competitive edge through their adoption, implementation, assessment, and investment. This systematic review will benefit practitioners and academics by providing the major strands of research in the current studies on eco-innovation. This study also provides insights into four distinctive features of eco-innovation in the corporate environment as well as research gaps of recent eco-innovation studies. This study thus provides future research directions for subsequent eco-innovation research, as well as insights for managers and policy makers on how to enhance and strategize strategies for eco-innovation in the corporate environment.
... Additionally, examining the broader performance outcomes, such as their influence on supply chain resilience (Li et al., 2023), would enrich the understanding of the value proposition of responsible production. Third, further investigation into the mediating mechanisms that underlie the relationship between responsible production and market value is warranted. ...

... Consequently, politically connected firms may exhibit lower levels of accounting transparency compared to their nonconnected counterparts (Chaney et al., 2011). Li et al. (2022) examined the impact of senior executives' political ambitions on corporate environmental behaviors. Analyzing data from Chinese firms operating in high-pollution sectors listed on the Shanghai Stock Market between 2014 and 2016, their findings indicated that companies led by politically connected leaders tended to provide reduced environmental disclosures. ...

... Environmental innovation is sometimes substituted with other terminology, such as ecological innovation, sustainable innovation, or ecological innovation. The concept's participation in this area of management or economics is primarily what makes it regarded as multidisciplinary (He et al., 2018;Bossle et al., 2016). Because of the way the world is going these days, there is much discussion about the sustainable development of EU regions (Vatamanescu et al., 2019). ...
