This report on the economic growth, measured as GDP per capita in relation to natural resources and environmental degradation, and how this relation should be reflected in the System of National Accounts, was initiated some years ago by members of the Club of Rome (Wouter van Dieren, consulted by a.o. Martin Lees and Ernst von Weizsäcker), and has been carried out by the Institute for Environment and Systems Analysis in the Netherlands (IMSA).1 The project encompasses preparation of this report and research into the most opportune proposal concerning adjustment of the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) and Net Domestic Product (NDP) for environment costs. The conclusions and recommendations presented are based on an assessment of the contents of the preceding chapters, desk research, interviews, attended meetings, and consultations with experts.
