The aim of this research was to create an accurate simulation model of a lithium-ion battery cell, which will be used in the design process of the traction battery of a fully electric load-hull-dump vehicle. Discharge characteristics tests were used to estimate the actual cell capacity, and hybrid pulse power characterization (HPPC) tests were used to identify the Thevenin equivalent circuit parameters. A detailed description is provided of the methods used to develop the HPPC test results. Particular emphasis was placed on the applied filtration and optimization techniques as well as the assessment of the quality and the applicability of the acquired measurement data. As a result, a simulation model of the battery cell was created. The article gives the full set of parameter values needed to build a fully functional simulation model. Finally, a charge-depleting cycle test was performed to verify the created simulation model.

Management Systems in Production Engineering

The paper is devoted to the construction and design solutions of the power supply and drive systems of a prototype, lightweight LHD (Load-Haul-Dump) loader with an innovative “in-wheel drive” transmission system. The loader is a Battery Electric Vehicle (BEV) with replaceable energy storage. It is intended for use in underground mines with no explosion hazard, especially in metal ore mines. The developed model contains four independent, electric drive systems installed in the road wheels. The paper presents the results of simulation tests, which enabled estimating the required driving power and electricity demand in various regimes and working conditions of the loader. The results of the calculations were used to determine the parameters of the drive system components and the battery capacity. Challenges and problems faced by constructors of BEV LHD loaders with an in-wheel drive have been pointed out.

The article describes the results of research aimed at identifying the parameters of the equivalent circuit of a lithium-ion battery cell, based on the results of HPPC (hybrid pulse power characterization) tests. The OCV (open circuit voltage) characteristic was determined, which was approximated using functions of various types, while making their comparison. The internal impedance of the cell was also identified in the form of a Thevenin RC circuit with one or two time constants. For this purpose, the HPPC pulse transients were approximated with a multi-exponential function. All of the mentioned approximations were carried out using an original method developed for this purpose, based on the PSO (particle swarm optimization) algorithm. As a result of the optimization experiments, the optimal configuration of the PSO algorithm was found. Three different cognition methods have been analyzed here: GB (global best), LB (local best), and FIPS (fully informed particle swarm). Three different swarm topologies were used: ring lattice, von Neumann, and FDR (fitness distance ratio). The choice of the cognition factor value was also analyzed, in order to provide a proper PSO convergence. The identified parameters of the cell model were used to build simulation models. Finally, the simulation results were compared with the results of the laboratory CDC (charge depleting cycle) test.

This paper introduces a method for estimating weight of moving vehicle based on vibration measurements registered by sensor network. The sensor network consists of sensor nodes installed on roadside and curbs. The sensor nodes calculate statistical features of vibration measurements and verify them using a proposed quality function. Then statistical features are used to create a vibration model, which allows the sensor nodes to estimate vehicle weight. Vibration models were created in this study using linear regression and fully connected neural network. A final assessment of vehicle weight is performed at the network sink, by taking into consideration the estimations and data quality indicators provided by particular sensor nodes. Several machine learning methods were compared with the proposed approach. The proposed method has low computational requirements, thus it can be adapted to sensor networks with computational and memory constrains. Advantages of the introduced method were demonstrated in real-world experiments, using various modelling approaches and installation types of sensor nodes. The experimental results confirm that the introduced method can be adapted for the node, which can weight vehicles independently or in cooperation with other nodes (as an ensemble).

Application of Audio over Ethernet Transmission Protocol for Synchronization of Seismic Phenomena Measurement Data in order to Increase Phenomena Localization Accuracy and Enable Programmable Noise Cancellation

Communications in Computer and Information Science

Seismic phenomena, in particular underground tremors, as extremely dangerous, require activities related to their location and prediction. The registration of high-energy phenomena is not a technological challenge at present, while recognizing their precursors as low-energy phenomena, and in particular the associated precise location and isolation from the seismic (acoustic) background, is relatively problematic. The article presents the concept and work related to the elimination of desynchronization of measurements in the seismoacoustic band and ensuring the compliance of the measurement phase in order to increase the accuracy of phenomena location and the possibility to use standard programming tools to eliminate noise (seismoacoustic background).

This paper reviews low-cost vehicle and pedestrian detection methods and compares their accuracy. The main goal of this survey is to summarize the progress achieved to date and to help identify the sensing technologies that provide high detection accuracy and meet requirements related to cost and ease of installation. Special attention is paid to wireless battery-powered detectors of small dimensions that can be quickly and effortlessly installed alongside traffic lanes (on the side of a road or on a curb) without any additional supporting structures. The comparison of detection methods presented in this paper is based on results of experiments that were conducted with a variety of sensors in a wide range of configurations. During experiments various sensor sets were analyzed. It was shown that the detection accuracy can be significantly improved by fusing data from appropriately selected set of sensors. The experimental results reveal that accurate vehicle detection can be achieved by using sets of passive sensors. Application of active sensors was necessary to obtain satisfactory results in case of pedestrian detection.
