Populations of protogynes and deutogynes of Acutus fockeui (Nalepa and Trouessart) were examined morphologically and biologically when collected from and reared on different species of Prunus. Morphological comparisons showed that protogynes from different hosts were significantly different from each other as were the protogynes and deutogynes on the same host. Plum, Prunus domestica L., was the best host based on number of eggs laid and number of generation per year. Mitesfrom sour cherry, Prunus cerasus L., were the most uniform and met the requirements of the description of Acutus fockeui whereas the mites from plum were more variable in their morphology and were close to the descriptions for A. cornutus (Banks), A. balevskii Natcheff or even belonging to the genus Aculops (Keifer, 1966).
