Advantages such as reproducible and fully parameterised scenarios, safe testing of critical driving situations, flexibility for complex variant comparisons, and the possibility to experience new car functions a long time before they are available in real prototypes have meant that these development tools are almost without alternative in concept development phases. But there are also some challenges when using driving simulators, such as the big variety of use cases with different requirements which prevents the use of one simulator for all investigations (Fischer et al. 2015;Hartfiel et al. 2018).
