Postcolonial theory examines the development and advancement of ideals of former colonies by considering the effects of European conquest, colonization and ruling over non-European regions (McLeod, 2000). The theory considers the effects of European dominance and self-preservation over non-European people and cultures (Childs & Williams, 1997).
