IBM's Corporate Service Corps (CSC), launched in 2008, uses international volunteering as a springboard for developing its next generation of leaders in a socially responsible manner while expanding business knowledge and opportunities in emerging markets. The CSC is one of the most successful talent development experiments conducted at IBM in recent years. The application process opens each spring for approximately four weeks. Teamwork is an essential part of the CSC experience. Teams begin their on-site work by building relationships with their clients and clarifying the scope of their projects. IBM benefits in a variety of ways from the program. In addition to helping IBM fulfill its commitment to being a socially responsible organization, the CSC strengthens IBM's ability to attract and retain top talent, develops more knowledgeable staff, enhances the company's reputation, positively impacts financial performance, and creates a strong pipeline of leaders.
