V.V. Kryakov

It was reported previously that the rate of formation of the 'node' in arc treatment of a cathode holder made of VL or VI type tungsten in a mixture of argon and oxygen is determined by two components of the process: the rate of deposition of the material on the cathode holder from the arc column and the rate of evaporation of the material in the form of tungsten oxides and complex compounds from the side surface of the 'node' during its formation. A physical model of the ion mechanism of transfer of mass from the arc column to the cathode is proposed. The model describes satisfactorily the experimentally detected process of formation of 'a node'. It is shown that the transfer of ions from the arc column to the arc can be calculated by the direct application of Faraday's laws determined for electrolytes. The ion component of current in the column of the argon arc with tungsten oxide vapors is calculated.
