The contribution deals with the satisfaction of operating and safety conditions during the mining of coking coal at faces endangered by coal and gas outbursts in the Paskov Mine - Stafíc Plant. Underground in the mine, methane-air mixtures and coal and gas outbursts represent a high hazard. To enable mining operations at these faces at risk of this hazard, detailed knowledge of geological conditions, technical and operational data on mined faces, degree of influencing the overlying and underlying strata of the seam being mined, and a possibility of utilization of degasification as well as outburst prevention are required. These facts influence in the highest degree safety risks at mined faces. The article informs about an engineering solution for the ensuring of mining operations at the faces No. 084 271 under conditions of high emission rates in the joint-stock company Paskov Mine - Staříč Plant, OKD, a.s.

The main subject of this paper focuses on scientific and research activities conducted in the Institute of Mining Engineering and Safety of the VŠB-Technical University of Ostrava. Cooperation between the VŠB-Technical University of Ostrava and OKD A.S., the only representative of coal mining in the Ostrava-Karviná coal basin, has recently begun to develop again. This paper describes an example discussed in a certain study, which has been undertaken for the Paskov mine, OKD a.s., dealing specifically with the evolution of microclimate parameters in mines that depend on the progress of mining activity at deeper levels over a period of several years. To this end, a special program, aimed at determination of the necessary refrigerating capacity, was established at the VŠB-Technical University of Ostrava.

The contribution deals with the satisfaction of safety conditions by reducing the high quantity of emitted methane using the degasification methods during the mining of coking coal at faces in the Paskov Mine in the Czech Republic. Methane-air mixtures represent a serious problem in coal mining. The problem consists in a risk of high concentrations of methane emitted from coal being disintegrated; the concentrations may exceed the permissible level. Thus, an explosive atmosphere may be produced as well. This safety risk leads to both increased costs of mining and losses of time in the mining process. Mining of Coal Seams Under the Main Haulage Level

The question of mining under the main haulage level as a way by which in some cases coal reserves can be effectively extracted is still discussed. The paper introduces advantages and disadvantages of this method. It presents examples of the bedding of a seam in a limited depth under level, for example 50 m, when the opening by the under level mining method is obviously more advantageous. Special attention is given to risks of ventilation short circuit which are higher in this method compared to classical opening. The paper also gives a brief economical reflection allowing to determine the efficiency of under level mining.
