This research article examines Thailand’s tourism rivals, Singapore, and Malaysia’s tourism policies. Using a qualitative research approach, this study conducted a documentary analysis of gray literature available in the online public domain from 2020 to 2024. The sources included government white papers, tourism strategic planning documents, government tourism agency websites, online media news releases, and official tourism commercials available on social media platforms. This study employed a comparative policy framework, modifying the OECD’s structure in the process. The findings revealed that Thailand, Singapore, and Malaysia have a primary objective of prioritizing sustainable tourism. These three countries have created organizations dedicated to promoting tourism to sell their offerings effectively. Nevertheless, the disparity among these three countries lies in the limitations imposed on tourism resources, which in turn impact the allocation of budgets and implementing tourism plans and programs in each country. The findings and discussion provide valuable strategic insights for the future formulation of tourism policies. This study provides valuable insights from Thailand tourism rivalries’ comparative analysis, which serves as a foundation for tourism-related authorities to design tourism policies and promote tourism growth in Thailand.

This article aims at investigating airport performance in terms of efficiency and productivity change. Regional and local airports in Thailand are used as a case study. To achieve the research objective of the paper, the data envelopment analysis together with Malmquist productivity index are employed to analyse the technical efficiency scores and capture the total productivity change during 2009–2018 for 31 airports in Thailand. Using the BCC-DEA-Malmquist model with output-oriented framework, we found that most of regional and local airports in Thailand were operating technically inefficiently during the period of the study, while the total productivity change of most airports showed a positive progress, around 8.4%, during the study period. Decompositions of the Malmquist productivity index reported the positive change in technical efficiency and airport technology. The policy recommendations arising from the case study for airport practitioners are presented.

Because of the scarcity of extant studies in the literature on airport business models, this study aims to identify a framework for airport business model design. Exploratory research obtained from key Thai respondents was used, and the data analysis was further enhanced by an extensive review of related grey literature available in public domains. With our qualitative data analysis, we propose the generic airport business model framework as a foundation for designing business models. Strategic partners, core business activities, human resources and sustainability-related projects should be considered basic components driving an airport to achieve high performance. The remaining business model components should be customised depending on business environments and location contexts.

Deregulation causing the growth in demand for air transport has impacted on the shift of airport governmental policy in most countries around the world. It includes not only the infrastructure development, service quality improvement but also airport strategic planning relating to efficiency enhancement. For the past decades, literature relevant to airport efficiency development and assessment has greatly gained the academic attention specifically on the Data Envelopment Analysis Models. These models have taken a large part in the studies due to its advantages over other measurement methods on input data flexibilities which are suitable for airport data characteristics. Although the models are widely employed, the theoretical background and especially application guidelines to airport contexts are still unclearly present. Therefore, this article intends to provide the related concept and theory underpinned the Data Envelopment Analysis Models together with their usage guidance through systematic literature review. Ultimately for the airport contexts, the knowledge on the issues are well-prepared and comprehensively covered for further application.
