Um indivíduo de Himantopus mexicanus com plumagem aberrante foi observado em 10 de novembro de 2020 e, novamente, em 03 de março de 2021, entre os municípios de Fortaleza e Eusébio, no Ceará, Brasil. O exemplar estava entre um grupo de aves da mesma espécie e possuía leucismo ou grisalho progressivo, sendo este o primeiro registro documentado de aberração cromática para o gênero Himantopus na América do Sul.
