In the Physical Education instruction process, two milestones stand out, the first in 1939, with the creation of the first instruction course, and the second in 2005, with the first course in the Distance Learning (EaD) format. The aim of this study was to verify the scientific production on Distance Education in Physical Education instruction through a bibliometric analysis. The bibliometric study was carried out in the electronic databases SciELO and Lilacs until November 13th, 2019. As a search strategy, the terms present in the title, abstract and keywords in the Portuguese language were integrated. The study included original articles in open access magazines and full texts published in English, Spanish and Portuguese. The initial date of publication has not been restricted. For bibliometric analysis and discussion, data from years of publication, countries and authors, journals in which it was published and types of research were extracted. The data were analyzed in a descriptive and inferential way, and the results were presented in graphs and tables prepared in the Excel® 365 for Windows program. It was found that the first study dates from 2012, and 2013 is the year with the highest publication. The author with the largest number of publications is Ari Lazarotti Filho, from Universidade Federal de Goiás, the same university responsible for the journal with the largest number of articles, called Pensar a Prática. Of these articles, 68.75% are descriptive, 25%, documentary, and 6.25%, of construction material for distance education. The researches carried out in the Distance Education modality do not aim to verify its quality, at least when analyzing the Distance Education in Physical Education.
