... It is also necessary to consider the effect of rarity and commonness on the selection process. Therefore, it is hardly surprising that different criteria and factors contributing to the score have been proposed in Spain (Alcaraz et al., 1989;Blanco Castro, 1989), resulting in several studies aimed at identifying IPAs according to one or other scoring system: species richness, taxic diversity and rarity (Castro Parga et al., 1996), species richness (Ara ujo et al., 2007) and threat status and endemism (del Valle et al., 2004). Only Infante & Heras (2012) applied the four criteria (richness, rarity, endemism and threat status), but their work focussed on identifying IPAs for bryophytes rather than IPAs for vascular plants. ...

... The bioclimatology includes the thermo-to mesomediterranean thermotypes and subhumid to hyperhumid ombrotypes (Rivas-Martínez et al. 2011b). The vegetation comprises the paleoclimatic relict forest of Q. canariensis (Rusco-Querco canariensis Rivas-Martinez, 1975), enriched with evergreen large-leafed lauroid elements with Senecioni lopezii-Quercetum lusitanicae Rivas Martínez in Rivas-Martínez et al. (2002) in the understory of the fog-forest. Specimen for deposit as herbarium vouchers: Specimens of the new nothotaxon to be described were collected in the field and deposited at the Herbarium PO (Universidade do Porto, Portugal). ...

... Rivas-Martínez et al. ( [14], [19] pp. 433-922), in successive publications, establish a classification of vegetation for the Iberian Peninsula, including deciduous forests in the phytosociological class Querco-Fagetea and deciduous scrub in the class Rhamno-Prunetea [38]. Iberian forests, whose vulnerability to climate change is of concern [39,40], are undoubtedly affected and will continue to be affected, impacting biodiversity [41,42]. ...
