... Based on our excavation of more than 5.5 m of deposits, we identified 12 geological horizons (GH) that contain seven archaeological horizons (AH). Since Kandel et al. (2014) describe the stratigraphic sequence down to AH VI, we provide an overview here (Table 1; Fig. 4). The surface horizon AH I (GH 1) is unconsolidated brownish-gray ashy silt, containing plentiful modern debris and Middle Bronze Age, Hellenistic, and Medieval ceramics as well as Paleolithic artifacts and mineralized faunal remains (Kandel et al., 2011). ...
