This conference was the second in the annual series on development economics. It focused on four pressing policy and research issues: long-term growth; project evaluation; the environment; and population growth. A keynote address on economic transition in Czechoslovakia and Eastern Europe is followed by nine papers, all of which are abstracted separately. Each is followed by comments and the main points from the floor discussion. There is also a roundtable discussion on the roles of the state and the private sector. -M.Amos
