Critical race theory (CRT) advocates like Derrick Bell (1989) have pointed out that liberalism, the political philosophy that is concerned with the individual and state relationship and values limiting state intrusion on liberties, ignores inherent differences in social group categories that adversely affect the individual, and treats such differences as naturally random. CRT holds that the rule of law does not work for racial minorities, but always for the more empowered, privileged groups (Delgado, 1996).
