Bisphenol-A (BPA), found in plastics and food coatings, is known for its potential adverse health effects. While some studies have focused on BPA's endocrine effects, other research explores its impact on the myenteric plexus, which controls the motility of the digestive tract. The study investigated the effects of BPA on myenteric plexus neurons in rats. For the analysis of the effects on the myenteric plexus (MP), 32 male Wistar rats aged 40 days were divided into four groups (n=8) that received filtered water via gavage over 12 weeks for the control group (CG), dose group 1 (DG1) BPA solution at 0.05mg/kg, dose group 2 (DG2) BPA solution at 0.25mg/kg, and dose group 3 (DG3) BPA solution at 0.5mg/kg. The animals were weighed weekly to adjust the administered volume. At the end of the experimental period, a new weighing was performed, and the rats were euthanized. After laparotomy, the intestinal segments corresponding to the jejunum-ileum were collected to demonstrate the density of the population (Giemsa+), the subpopulations of active myenteric neurons (NADH-d+), and the nitrergic subpopulation (NADPH-d+). BPA exposure did not significantly affect the rats' weight gain, but, there was a reduction in the total density of myenteric neurons in DG3 (10.78mm²) compared to DG (18.88mm²) and DG1 (16.28mm²), and also a reduction in the NADH-d+ subpopulation between DG3 (8.50mm²) and the CG (14.45mm²) and DG1 (14.17mm²) groups. For the nitrergic subpopulation (NADPH-d+), there was no difference in the expression of these neurons. Based on the results obtained, it can be inferred that there was a reduction in cholinergic neurons (NADPH-d-), calculated from the total population of neurons. These findings suggest that BPA may compromise the neuronal function of the MP, possibly by inducing oxidative stress and apoptosis of subpopulations, acting as a xenoestrogen on the nuclear receptors of these neurons, and consequently affecting the regulation of gastrointestinal motility, interfering with cholinergic neuronal transmission and nitric oxide production, and also greater resistance of nitrergic neurons can be observed. Both studies highlight the importance of raising awareness about BPA, as well as the possible harmful effects on unique health. The need to understand the impacts of BPA on different biological systems is emphasized to better understand its effects on human health, especially considering its widespread presence in modern society.

Currently, the use of exogenous enzymes in the diet of broilers has grown, not only in diets based on corn and soybean meal, but also in diets with proteins of animal origin. The objective of this study was to evaluate the effect of supplementing a multi-carbohydrase complex (xylanase, glucanase, other carbohydrases) with phytase (MCCP) in broiler diets containing animal ingredients on performance, litter quality, jejunum morphometry and feed cost. Three treatments were evaluated: T1 - positive control diet: reference diet; T2 - negative control diet + MCCP; T3 - negative control diet (reference ration minus the MCCP nutritional matrix), with five replicates per treatment, totaling 15 experimental units of 15 female chicks each for an experimental period of 47 days. It was found that the T1 animals showed better feed conversion when compared to the T2 and T3 in the period from one to 21 days. In addition, greater weight at 28 days was found for T1compared to T3. The greater villus height of the jejunum at seven days was verified for the T3 animals concerning the T2 and T1 treatments. There were no differences between treatments in relation to the litter quality and the cost of the feed to produce one kilogram of broiler chicken. It is concluded that the supplementation of the MCCP in broiler chicken diets with ingredients of animal origin does not improve the performance, does not modify the jejunum morphometric, litter quality, and cost parameters evaluated. Keywords: Feed Conversion. Glucanase. Phytase. Villus Height. Xylanase. Fitase. Glucanase. Xilanase.

Bats, from the Molossidae family, are found on all continents. Molossus rufus, are found in Brazil, having an insectivorous feeding habit. The present study aimed to characterize and locate the myenteric plexus in the gastrointestinal tract of Molossus rufus bats from the northwest region of the state of Paraná. Necropsy of five male specimens was performed and the structures corresponding to the stomach and intestines were fixed in 10% neutral buffered formalin for histological preparation of the material, and 0.5cm of each segment was followed for identification of myenteric ganglia using the technique of Giemsa and the histochemistry of NADPH-diaphorase. The myenteric plexus is found between the circular and longitudinal strata of the tunica muscularis, with neurons gathered in ganglia surrounded by bundles of collagen fibers. The ganglia observed in the membrane preparations were formed by different numbers of neurons, interconnected by bundles of nerve fibers, where isolated neurons could be observed. The location of the myenteric plexus found in bats of the species Molossus rufus is similar to those found in other mammals.

Taking into account the increasing search for quality milk production, the objective was to evaluate the milk quality of 33 properties located in the northwest region of Paraná in 2018, relating them to current legislation (normative instruction 76). The results of standard plate count (SPC), somatic cell count (SCC), fat, non-fat solids, total solids, lactose and protein were tabulated. There was non-compliance related to the legislation of 53% of the samples for SPC and 21.8% for SCC. In the analysis of geometric means, 27.3% presented three consecutive months above the acceptable limits for SCC and 63.6% for SPC. The multiple correspondence analysis of the nonconformity results showed two processes involving, each, three strongly associated variables: SCC, fat and total solids and SCC, lactose and total solids. These associations came from 56.3% of the variability contained in the data set, demonstrating that high SCC results negatively affect the percentages of fat and total solids, in addition to lactose and total solids and that despite technological advances, many producers still find it difficult to meet the legislation.

In this study, the healing process of full-thickness skin wounds induced in Wistar rats (n = 75) was evaluated, divided into 5 treatments: negative control, PVA nanofiber film, and PVA nanofiber film added in concentrations of 3%, 6% and 10% with lyophilized extract of T. catappa. After euthanasia of 5 animals from each of the groups, at times 7, 14 and 21 days, samples were evaluated for the presence of oxidative stress markers reduced Glutathione (GSH) and levels of lipoperoxidation (LPO), and for the histological characteristics of tissues stained with hematoxylin-eosin and azan. The results showed that, in addition to remaining on the surface of the wounds for an acceptable period, the nanofiber membrane was able to deliver the extract of T. catappa to the bed of the treated wounds and, despite not producing statistically relevant histological changes, it was observed significant antioxidant effect by reducing LPO and increasing GSH in a dose dependent manner. Thus, it is concluded that the PVA nanofiber film associated with the T. catappa extract has an antioxidant effect and can assist in wound healing

This study sought to identify and quantify the trampling of carcasses of animals along the highways in the northwest region of the state of Paraná and for this it was necessary the support of the Environmental Police of Paraná, where animals carcasses were collected along the highways BR-376, PR-082, PR-151, PR-180, PR-182, PR-323, PR-486, PR-489, PR-490, PR-151 and PR-518. After the receipt of the specimens, the identification was carried out through the external morphology according to the taxonomic classification, then, were realized the dissection and autopsy. Roadkill of 50 specimens were recorded, being 10 birds, seven reptiles and 33 mammals. With the identification of the animals species run over in this study, it is possible to conclude that the construction of highways and the intense traffic of cars and trucks have caused significant environmental problems because it is necessary to deforest areas rich in flora and fauna to their construction and with this situation there is change in the migratory routes of animals and food behavior change that significantly increases the chances of a roadkill and the animals come to death. Studies like this one, are required to submit the environmental impacts (environment and wild animals) that the constructions or even the increase of highways cause on flora, fauna, and also for the environment itself to be proposed before the work plan with measures that aim to reduce these impacts.

Acta Scientiae Veterinariae

Intense pulsed light (IPL) effectively treats solar hand melanosis but causes inflammation afterward. The aim of this study was to compare the anti-inflammatory effects of the supercritical extract of Physalis angulata L. with the effects of 1% hydrocortisone and a placebo. The participants treated with IPL (n = 60), aged 26–73 years, were divided into two groups (n = 30). In group 1, the left hands of participants were treated with 0.5% P. angulata L. extract, and the right hands were treated with 1% hydrocortisone. In group 2, the left and right hands were treated with 0.5% P. angulata L. extract and the placebo, respectively. In group 1, the hands treated with P. angulata extract had pain (16.6%), higher temperature (66.6%), and higher perilesional erythema (40%) compared to the hands treated with hydrocortisone. In group 2, only the hands treated with the placebo had pain (30%), higher temperature, and greater perilesional erythema than the hands treated with the P. angulata extract. The results show the superiority of hydrocortisone in treating melanosis, but the P. angulata extract exhibited significant efficacy when compared to the placebo and can act as a potential anti-inflammatory agent.

This result can be attributed to the protective effect that nitric oxide (NO) confers on these inhibitory neurons of the myenteric plexus, since neurons that constantly use NO develop an improvement in the defense mechanism against free radicals generated by oxidative stress, resulting, for example, from the effects of BPA(Cowen et al., 2000; Mandal, Sharma, Dixit, 2023; Sarkar, et al., 2014). ...
