Longitudinal study, whose objective was to present a better strategy and statistical methods, and demonstrate its use with the data across the 2013-2015 period in schoolchildren aged 7 to 11 years, covered with the same food questionnaire (WebCAAFE) survey in Florianopolis, southern Brazil. Six meals/snacks and 32 foods/beverages yielded 192 possible combinations denominated meal/snack-Specific Food/beverage item (MSFIs). LASSO algorithm (LASSO-logistic regression) was used to determine the MSFIs predictive of overweight/obesity, and then binary (logistic) regression was used to further analyze a subset of these variables. Late breakfast, lunch and dinner were all associated with increased overweight/obesity risk, as was an anticipated lunch. Time-of-day or meal-tagged food/beverage intake result in large number of variables whose predictive patterns regarding weight status can be analyzed by machine learning such as LASSO, which in turn may identify the patterns not amenable to other popular statistical methods such as binary logistic regression.

Longitudinal study, whose objective was to evaluate of the time trend in food consumption across the 2002-2015 period in schoolchildren aged 7 to 11 years, covered five food surveys in Florianopolis, southern Brazil. Methodological differences across the surveys (typical vs. previous day food consumption, pen-and-paper versus computer screen presentation) and some known risk factors, were adjusted for statistically. Offset by maximum food/beverage consumption per day allowed comparability of a varying number of food components in a food group over survey years. Significant reduction in some healthy (fruits and animal proteins) and unhealthy diet markers (sodas, sugary drinks, sweets) was observed over the 2013-2015 period compared with the 2002 and 2007 data. Computer screen presentation of the food questionnaire systematically reduced the reporting frequency compared to the pen-and-paper presentation. Converting frequency reports into rates and using contrast analysis allowed time trend estimation based on food questionnaires with different presentation modes, varying number of items within food group over survey years, and variations in probabilistic sampling procedures.

Background: Multiple modifiable lifestyle factors are well-known contributors to many health problems. Objectives: This study aims to determine the association between latent class analysis (LCA) of modifiable lifestyle risk factors with being overweight and/or obese for children and/or adolescents. Methods: Articles were selected from six databases, without limitation regarding language or date. The review included studies that identify latent classes of modifiable lifestyle risk factors [e.g., physical activity (PA), diet, sedentary behavior (SB), and/or unhealthy behavior] by LCA to determine the association between latent classes with being overweight and/or obese. The methodology of the selected studies was evaluated using the JBI Critical Appraisal Checklist for Analytical Cross-Sectional Studies. Owing to the heterogeneity between latent classes of modifiable lifestyle risk factors with obesity and/or being overweight, the results are described narratively. Results: Using a selection process in two phases, nine articles were included. All of the included studies were of high methodological quality. The studies were conducted in six different countries: the USA, Brazil, Canada, Portugal, Italy, and Australia. Sample sizes ranged from 166 to 18.587 children and adolescents, and in terms of age (range 5-19 years). Across study clusters characterized by low consumption of fruit and vegetables, and high consumption of fatty foods, sugar snack foods, sweets, chips and fries, low PA (<1 hour each day), and high SB (screen time and TV >2 hours/day), sleep time (<10 hours/day) were positively associated with being overweight and/or obese. Conclusion: Overall there is good evidence to support that the modifiable lifestyle risk factors clustered together by LCA should be novel targets for the treatment of obesity and its associated comorbidities.

Childhood Obesity

Background: Childhood overweight and obesity are recognized as predictors of the risk of obesity in adulthood. The aim of this systematic literature review was to determine the association between dietary pattern and obesity risk among children. Methods: Articles were selected from databases (Cochrane Library, Lilacs, Eric, Livivo, and PubMed/Medline), without limitations regarding language or date. Database-specific search terms included the key words "obesity," "diet," "dietary pattern," "childhood," "children," "adolescents," and relevant synonyms. The review included studies that reported the assessment of the dietary pattern in childhood and that correlated eating patterns with the obesity risk through cluster analysis (CA) and/or factor analysis and/or principal component analysis and presented odds ratios (ORs). The methodology of the selected studies was evaluated using the JBI Critical Appraisal Checklist for Analytical Cross-Sectional Studies. Owing to the heterogeneity among the assessments of the association of dietary patterns and obesity, the results are described narratively. Results: Using a selection process in two phases, 16 articles were included. Fifteen studies used a cross-sectional design, and one case-control study. The included studies showed variation in sample size (range = 232 to 10,187 children/adolescents) and age (range = 1-19 years old). The studies reported between two and five dietary patterns each. The OR for the relationship between the dietary pattern and the risk of childhood obesity ranged from OR = 1.02; confidence interval (95% CI) (0.91-1.15) to OR = 3.55; 95% CI (1.80-7.03). In this study, the dietary patterns identified by the studies were given different names. The food intake patterns identified could, in most factor or CA studies, be categorized as (1) potentially obesogenic foods that increased risk of becoming overweight (including fatty cheeses, sugary drinks, processed foods, fast food, candies, snacks, cakes, animal products, whole milk, and refined grains) or (2) food classified as healthy with the weakest association with the risk of becoming overweight or obese (including low levels of sugar and fat and high levels of fruits, vegetables, whole grains, fish, nuts, legumes, and yogurt). Conclusion: Overall, the results indicated from most studies that a diet with a lower percentage of obesogenic foods should be effective in reducing the risk of developing obesity.

Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction practices increase the capacity for concentration and attention, and these practices are particularly effective for people with breast cancer. To analyze the effects of the application of Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction on breast cancer symptoms. Systematic review and meta-analysis were carried out. To find suitable studies, the PubMed/ MEDLINE database was searched using the keywords "breast cancer" and "Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction". Studies included were published between 2013 and 2017, written in English and showed methodological quality through the PEDro scale (score greater than 3). They also presented empirical evidence, had an experimental study design (randomized or non-randomized), and had full text available. For the meta-analysis, we used a random-effects model, with standardized mean differences and 95% confidence intervals. Seven studies were included, one non-randomized and containing only an intervention group of Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction, and six randomized including samples of two or three groups. The non-randomized study showed 6 points on the PEDro scale, the randomized studies of two groups 6 to 7 points and studies with three groups showed 7 points. In the meta-analysis of the two randomized studies, the results, although not significant, revealed a moderate effect for Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction on the outcome of fatigue, with a mean difference of -0.42 (95%CI -0.92- -0.07; p=0.09). Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction seems to be a promising alternative for treatment of this disease's symptoms.

Objective: To assess current practices in communication skills (CS) teaching in Brazilian medical schools (MS), looking for similarities and differences with other countries. Methods: This study was performed with 162 out of the 237 accredited Brazilian MS (68.35%). The quantitative data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and qualitative data using content analysis. Results: 104 MS (64.2%) reported formal CS training. CS were more commonly taught in the pre-clinical years, by physicians and psychologists. Compared to other countries, Brazil was unique in offering training for "acolhimento" ("embracement"), which is a Brazilian Government strategy that requires that all those connected with healthcare delivery, from administrators to practitioners, and all allied health personnel "embrace" a dedication to caring for patients and the communities in which they live. Conclusions: Formal CS teaching in Brazilian MS is less frequently seen in MS curriculum compared to reported data from other countries. The CS teaching of "embracement" is unique to Brazil. Practice implications: This study adds to the literature by identifying the CS teaching of "embracement" in Brazilian MS, which could be considered outside Brazil.

Introduction: MBCT practices increases the ability of concentration and attention, as well is particularly effective for people with current and treatment-resistant depression. Objective: To analyze the effects of the application of MBCT in symptoms of MDD. Methods: systematic review and meta-analysis. To find suitable studies, we searched PubMed/MEDLINE's database using the keywords mindfulness and major depressive disorder. Studies in English published between 2003 and 2015 were selected. The studies were evaluated according to their methodological quality by PEDro scale (score greater than 3), studies that showed empirical evidence, had an experimental study design (randomized and non-randomized), and whose full text was available. For the meta-analysis, we used a random-effects model with standardized mean differences and 95% confidence intervals. Results: Fourteen es were included, of which three were non-randomized, with only one group with intervention of MBCT, and 11 were randomized studies, divided into two-group samples and three-group samples. The non-randomized studies showed a PEDro score of 5, while the two-group and three-group randomized studies showed PEDro scores of 5-10 and 6-9, respectively. In the meta-analysis, the four randomized studies selected revealed a moderate effect of MBCT on the outcome of depression symptoms, with a mean difference of -0.52 (95% CI: -1.050 to -0.002; p = 0.04). Conclusion: The MBCT presented as a promising alternative for the treatment of this disorder.

... Mindfulness-based cognitive therapy (MBCT) was initially developed as a group intervention to prevent depressive relapses in patients with recurrent major depression and is meant to be provided after the acute symptomatology is reduced by antidepressant medications and/or cognitive and interpersonal therapies (Segal et al., 2002;Teasdale et al., 1995Teasdale et al., , 2000. More recently, several studies have highlighted the benefits of MBCT in reducing the severity of depressive symptoms in patients diagnosed with a current major depressive episode, and some meta-analyses have shown that MBCT is more effective than treatment as usual (TAU) in decreasing depressive symptoms (Chiesa & Serretti, 2011;Liberali, 2017;Sorbero et al., 2015;Strauss et al., 2014). In a meta-analysis of five trials comparing adjunctive MBCT versus TAU in major depressive disorder (MDD), Sorbero et al.
