Promoting inclusivity requires the vital aspect of ensuring equality for people with disabilities in information dissemination. As one of the mass media, the radio community contributes to knowledge and information dissemination to promote equality. Radio Braile Surabaya is a radio community providing a forum for information exchange. It aims to empower a source of knowledge to promote inclusivity, equality, and disability awareness in urban society. Therefore, this study investigates the strategies of content production of Radio Braile Surabaya to promote equality and inclusivity for disabled people, especially people with visual impairments. This study applied a qualitative approach with a case study as the framework. The data was collected through in-depth interviews with purposive samplings. The interviews were conducted with three key informants who manage and organize Radio Braile Surabaya. The result shows that the strategies include collaborative content planning, underlining the public infrastructure for disabled people, and emphasizing audio-rich content production and storytelling. This study underscores the importance of the radio community as a tool for empowering marginalized groups, such as people with disabilities, by providing equal information dissemination through accessible content.
February 2024 is the time for presidential election cycle for Indonesia. It becomes crucial to know how they promote their future programs in their published vision and mission books. The presidential candidates are Anies Baswedan and Muhaimin Iskandar as the first candidate, Prabowo Subianto and Gibran Rakabuming Raka as the second candidate, and Ganjar Pranowo and Mahfud MD as the third candidate. Since Indonesia has been actively promoting democracy in domestic areas and for international recognition, it is essential for the presidential candidates to promote democracy in their future programs. This paper aims to discover the most frequent discussed topics and how it reflected into the most-frequent words in their vision and mission books. Thus, this paper applied a computer-assisted textual analysis by Voyant tools. Voyant tool is known as a well-established methodology from data collection to data visualization. The results show that the first candidate focuses on the aspect of fairness in democracy, the second candidate focuses on the policy aspects of economic development, and the third one focuses on a broader aspect of economic development. Furthermore, the most frequent word analysis contributes to the theoretical understanding of computer-assisted textual analysis and democratic promotion among Indonesian presidential candidates.
The Food and Drug Supervisory Agency (BPOM) credibility is at stake as the Indonesian Pediatric Society and Indonesia’s Health Ministry reported that there was an increase in cases of Acute Kidney Injury in children in 2022. The people and communities consider BPOM to be too slow and is not transparent with this case. As a result, public opinions regarding the case become wilder on social media. This study figures out the interactivity of netizens on the instagram @bpom_ri in the case of Acute Kidney Injury in children. This study uses the thematic analysis and interactivity concept of McMillan. The results of the study showed that the dimension of interactivity in the comments section of BPOM's Instagram posts was high. The highest dimension was the sense of presence. The message relatedness of the comments was mainly linear with the posts. In terms of response, the most common was insight and information. The reactance of emotions showed a mix of positive and negative emotions, with fear being the most prevalent. This study found that netizens have a high willingness to share insight and information to others. They also express emotions such as fear and happiness when discussing medicine and feel connected to other commenters through a sense of presence. Additionally, there is a willingness to participate in a call of action. They keep commenting in BPOM instagram posts even though the comments did not match with the contents. Additionally, the issue of miss-using substances in children's syrup medicine evokes sadness among netizens.
Every year, various natural disasters strike Indonesia, and journalism activities play an important role in disaster communication. This study aims to find out how the challenges of picturing natural disasters in Indonesia through drone journalism are. For this reason, the researcher chose key informants who have international reputations, namely Willy Kurniawan from Reuters and Budi Candra who represent the National News Agency, Antara. By using thematic analysis, the results of in-depth interviews will be selected and grouped and visualized using the miro application. The results of the study show that drone journalism is a form of disaster communication that presents aerial photographs which function to show the impact and escalation of disasters. The challenges of drone journalism include ethical factors, copyrights, and technology for sending images during a disaster. In the aspect of disaster management and disaster communication, drone journalism plays a role as a supplement aerial information for evacuation and mitigation in the "during disaster" and "after disaster" phase. The next challenge is in the non-disaster phase, where the collaboration of multiple stakeholders is needed to make drone journalism can become a tool for educating people in disaster-prone areas.
One of the sectors that contribute to the Indonesian economy is agriculture, forestry, and fishery with around 13.28% of the Gross Domestic Product (GDP). Among them, coffee is known to be one of the essential commodities. Girimoyo village, one of the known coffee producers in Malang Regency, has a special coffee product called Bajing Coffee. Pamanjur Coffee Processor, one of the coffee production businesses, wants to make Bajing Coffee more popular. However, Pamanjur Coffee Processor fails to recognize the consumer and that makes the business grow slowly. Hence, Pamanjur Coffee Processor needs to raise people’s awareness of their products by methods that suit youngsters, especially through appealing social media content. As a result, this community service aims at helping Pamanjur Coffee Processor to gain more awareness. This community service program uses several methods, assessment, training, and assistance. The result shows that Pamanjur Coffee Processor did not have the “energy” to spend on the branding process of Bajing Coffee, but all the skills provided by the community service team are used to develop the identity and promotion of their cafe business line. As a result, this community service program was successful at the skill transfer level but failed to increase the branding of Bajing Coffee.

The photo of Joshua Irwandi's Covid-19 body went viral when influencer Anji posted Joshua's photo and gave negative comments. Various negative comments, interpretations and justifications from netizens actually represent challenges in the development of visual literacy in Indonesia, more specifically there is no literacy in terms of "reading" a photo. T he purpose of this research is to find out how the method of reading a photographic with perspective of visual literacy. Researchers used Maria Avgerinou's visual literacy competency, namely understanding Visual vocabulary, Visual Convention, Visual Thinking, Visualization, Visual Reasoning, Critical Viewing, Visual Discrimination, V isual Reconstruction, Visual Association, Reconstructing meaning and Constructing meaning. By using the concept of visual literacy from Maria Avgerinou, Joshua Irwandi photo’s brings out the meaning that Covid-19 changes the cultural and social roots of the Indonesian people, especially the dialectic between death and the meaning of life at the same time. ABSTRAK Foto jenazah Covid-19 karya Joshua Irwandi menjadi viral saat influencer Anji memposting foto Joshua dan memberi komentar bernada negatif. Beragam komentar, tafsir dan justifikasi yang negatif dari netizen sebenarnya adalah representasi tantangan dalam pengembangan literasi visual di Indonesia, lebih spesifik terdapat nirliterasi dalam hal “membaca” sebuah foto. Maka tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui bagaimana metode baca sebuah karya fotografi dalam perspektif literasi visual. Peneliti menggunakan kompetensi literasi visual Maria Avgerinou, yaitu pemahaman kosakata visual (Visual vocabulary) , memahami kesepakatan visual dari simbol yang ada (Visual Convention) , kemampuan berpikir secara visual saat produksi dan saat membaca imaji (Visual Thinking) , kemampuan menyajikan sebuah visual (Visualization) , alasan visual pada saat produksi visual (Visual Reasoning) , pembacaan visual dengan perspektif kritis (Critical Viewing) , kemampuan membedakan stimulus visual (Visual Discrimination) , kemampuan melakukan konstruksi ulang atas sajian visual yang ada (Visual Reconstruction) , pemahaman makna asosiatif yang ada dalam semua objek (Visual Association) , kemampuan merekonstruksi makna saat produksi visual (Reconstructing meaning) dan kemampuan membaca bangunan makna dari sajian visual atau disebut Constructing meaning . Dengan menggunakan konsep literasi visual dari Maria Avgerinou, foto karya Joshua Irwandi ini memunculkan makna bahwasanya Covid-19 mengubah akar kultural dan sosial masyakarat Indonesia, khususnya dialektika antara kematian dan makna kehidupan sekaligus.
The spread of COVID-19 in Indonesia is massive in terms of sufferers. This article aims to seek how national photo news agency ANTARA visualized the pandemic as part of contribution to COVID-19 research in the communication field. By utilizing thematic analysis and qualitative approach, the researchers want to identify, analyze, organize, describe, and report particular themes within an extensive data set of 466 photojournalism. The photos collected from www.antarafoto.com, start from 1 May until 12 May 2020. The finding shows that ANTARA visualized the current Indonesian condition of facing COVID-19 in 8 main themes, determined the countless efforts of ANTARA photojournalists working with a new protocol, and simultaneously also face the new resistance from society. The most popular theme produced by ANTARA photojournalists
is economics (183 photos), Social (164), and health (80). Discussion on the most popular is divided into specific topics, namely location, subject’s gender, photographic approach, image format, and news photo category. The Covid-19 pandemic in Indonesia forces people to have different behaviours, both socially and economically. This epidemic has made Indonesians’ shopping behaviour change; online shopping and cashless transactions have increased rapidly. Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) in Indonesia has left behind this consumer behaviour change. The BUMN Creative House (RKB) is a government effort to improve MSMEs’ quality in products, marketing, and funding. Regularly, RKB provides its members with training, workshop but cannot afford to assist their new knowledge. Telkom Indonesia manages the RKB in Malang Regency. This service activity is in the form of training and mentoring for MSMEs who are also partners of the RKB. The training lasts for three weeks, with tiered materials about content marketing and one month of assistance after the last session training to deepen their skills to help MSMEs setup their new digital marketing technique and deepen their skills. From this program, we found that (1) MSMEs digital literacy is varied depending on their age; (2) Greater Malang MSMEs is slow to adapt in new digital marketing technique, they even scared to try it, because even after one month of assistance, only 3 out of 15 businesses can advertise on the Facebook Platform.
The spread of hoax on health issue is a compelling phenomenon in digital era. By focusing on visual literacy as a way to avoid hoax, this qualitative research attempts to find how visual hoax operated. The main concept of Visual Literacy proposed by Maria Avgerinou, reading the spectrum of an image by Roland Barthes and six dimension of photograph life by Widiatmojo are used to analysis visual hoax. The result shows that visual hoax on corona virus occurred as the time frame dimension were diminished, the meaning was changed as well as the narration of the original image, the topic was compromised, the lost of image quality and the distribution on social media by anonymous identity. Therefore, people need to have basic competence in visual literacy, which is the ability to understand visual language accompanied by the ability to think and analyze. It will make an individual produce a positive perception that should be use to avoid hoaxes.
