... At present there is no phylogenetic study that includes dental morphological characters and DNA in Sigmodon or in other related groups. Certainly, there is no consensus in the Cricetidae infra-family groups between paleontologists and neontologists; many subfamilies and tribes do not have taxonomic compatibility amongst groups of fossil rodents with their current representatives (compare the phylogenetical hypotheses of Korth, 1994;Lindsay, 2008;Parada et al., 2013;Burgin et al., 2018). A detailed review of morphological and molecular data for Sigmodontinae and Neotominae is necessary to clarify this taxonomic discussion, but it is outside the objectives of the present paper. ...
