... The term Learning Objects (LOs) first appeared in 1994 and is attributed to Wayne Hodgins. Since then, numerous definitions have been proposed (Ally, 2004;Downes, 2004;Gibbons et al., 2002;Hannafin et al., 2002;IEEE, 2005;Sicilia & Garcia, 2003;Sosteric & Hesemeier, 2002;Smith, 2004), ranging from broad ones, referring to "any digital resource that can be used for educational purposes" (Wiley, 2000), depending on the learning theory and educational model adopted, to more targeted ones (Brown et al., 2019).
