This chapter sets out the position of the monarchy in relation to the Church of England and the Church’s relationship with the legislature. It describes the relevant constitutional law, including the oaths taken by the sovereign on accession and at the coronation, and the position of Roman Catholics. It goes on to explain the special arrangements for Church of England legislation under the Church Assembly (Powers) Act 1919, the role of the Second Church Estates Commissioner, and the arrangements for episcopal membership of the House of Lords.
