Peter Campbell

This review article acknowledges the debt that scholars of Australian music history owe to the pioneering research of Thérèse Radic. It focuses in part on her contribution to establishing the importance of the figure of G.W.L Marshall-Hall. It also addresses historiographical issues concerning Dr Alexander Leeper, the first Warden of Trinity College, and his role in the dismissal of Marshall-Hall from the University of Melbourne. Through extensive use of Trinity College archives, the article suggests that although Leeper played a leading role in the attack on Marshall-Hall, he was neither the sole nor the most vociferous opponent.
