Fiber-reinforced polymer (FRP) composites have been widely used for strengthening or constructing structures due to their excellent corrosion resistance and high tensile strength. An emerging hybrid structural member form with FRP composites—which consist of a steel section as internal reinforcement, an external FRP wrap/tube, and concrete filled between them (referred to as FRP-confined steel-reinforced concrete systems (FCSRC) systems)—has attracted increasing research interest. To date, the concept has been adopted to strengthen/repair steel structures or used as new hybrid structural members (e.g., hybrid columns or beams, including buckling restrained braces (BRBs)). The FRP confinement and composite action between the three components in FCSRCs result in the excellent performance of the hybrid member. This paper presents a state-of-the-art review of FCSRCs for structural applications. The gaps in knowledge and future research opportunities on FCSRC structural members are also identified.
... Several studies examined reinforced 3D printed concrete using continuous fiber-reinforced polymers (FRP). For example, Zeng et al. (2024) reinforced concrete with 3D printed continuous fiber reinforced thermoplastic polymers (CFRTPs). They found that when CFRTPs were added to 3D printed concrete, the flexural strength increased by more than 100%, and strain behavior changed to strain hardening. ...

... In practical applications, the specific direction of loading must be carefully considered when subjecting 3D-printed structures to flexural loads. If the structure is expected to be subjected to bending forces in the [u.w] direction, it may be necessary to reinforce the structure or adjust the orientation of the printed layers to more effectively distribute loads across areas with higher strength [41,42], such as the [w.u] or [v.u] directions. These directions demonstrated higher flexural strength and are more suitable for elements subjected to bending forces. ...

... Goyal, A., et al. emphasized the significant impact of corrosion of reinforcement on the life of reinforced concrete structures and introduced and compared various types of reinforcing bar corrosion prevention technology, pointing out that the current electrochemical techniques are the most effective in preventing corrosion of reinforcing steel [14]. Ye, Y. Y et al. investigated the FRP-constrained steelreinforced concrete (FCSRC) system incorporating fiber-reinforced polymer (FRP) composites, and the reinforced concrete structure showed excellent performance in dynamic construction applications [15]. ...
