Het lijkt een vrij mooie maartse dag te worden. Onverwacht goed uitgeslapen, sta ik vroeg op en begin aan het ritueel van de gifmenger, of nog: de mise en place van de uitvoerder.
Hij lachte niet veel, hoogstens liet hij een glimlach zien. Hij was meestal wat verlegen en onderdanig, en hield zijn hoofd nu wat schuin.
Voor mij zit een zestigjarige vrouw op een stoel aan de tafel van haar kamer in een psychiatrische inrichting. Ze spreekt traag en monotoon, zonder mimiek, en komt gelaten over, alsof ze dit verhaal al dikwijls heeft verteld. Haar intro is duidelijk en heeft geen aanzet nodig: ‘Ik heb de wens om euthanasie te plegen.’
Kan ik het anders stellen: dat ze in alle soorten komen, de patiënten? Eén bepaalde soort verdient onze speciale aandacht, met name de Zwarte Pieten. Het zijn de mensen die in een groep samenwerkende huisartsen steevast aan mekaar worden doorgegeven, met een grijns.
