This study examines the role of economic, demographic, cultural, and geographic factors in determining aggregate national demand for international telecommunications services. A theory of demand is developed and applied in an environment relatively free of interference from supply factors. Equations are formulated to express the relationships found to exist between international telecommunications volume and the explanatory variables, and the significance and implications of these relationships are analyzed.
