P. Webb

The methods of reducing noise in silicon positive-intrinsic-negative (PIN) photodiode were discussed. A photodetector/amplifier comprised detector, resistor and operational-amplifier components. A light-detection system had detector, thermal and amplifier noise components. The shot noise was generated by random fluctuations of dark current or photocurrent. The system noise can be reduced by minimizing preamplifier current and voltage noise. Maximizing detector shunt resistance and feedback resistance reduced detector and feedback resistor noise.
