... The Tres Marías Islands, known for their unique ecosystems and high levels of endemism, and Nayarit represent critical areas for the study of biodiversity and conservation. The specimens collected by Forrer in this insular region, comprising the Tres Marías Islands and the San Blas coast, have until today never been reported as a unit; they have only been the subject of scattered references: insects (Garcia-Aldrete, 1986); mammals (Nelson, 1899a;Bogan, 1978), birds (Nelson, 1899b;Stager, 1957;Grant and Cowan, 1964), fishes (Jordan, 1889), and reptiles (Boulenger, 1883;1885-87;1889;Stejneger, 1899;Boulenger, 1893-96;Blanchard, 1921;Stuart, 1935;Zweifel, 1960;Garcia-Aldrete, 1986). In light of the above, the British Museum, London, contains several specimens formerly unreported in the literature, and no detailed work on Alphonse Forrer has been published (Nelson, 1899c;Stager, 1957). ...
