DEVELOPING A SCALE OF ADOLESCENTS’ PERCEPTIONS TOWARD ADULTS: VALIDITY AND RELIABILITY STUDIES

This study introduced the Scale of Adolescents’ Perceptions Toward Adults (SAPTA), which was developed in Turkey. The validity and reliability study for SAPTA was performed using the data obtained from 1008 high school students whose ages ranged between 14 and 18. The internal consistency coefficient calculated with the Explanatory Factor Analysis (EFA) data obtained from 381 students was found to be 0.78 for the sub-scale named “Admired Adult Characteristics,” 0.66 for the sub-scale named “Disturbing Adult Characteristics,” and 0.69 for the entire scale. The internal consistency coefficient calculated with the Confirmatory Factor Analysis (CFA) data obtained from 627 students was found to be 0.82 for the sub-scale named “Admired Adult Characteristics,” 0.68 for the sub-scale named “Disturbing Adult Characteristics,” and 0.72 for the entire scale. The Spearman-Brown split-half test reliability value was found to be 0.74. The results of the analysis indicate that SAPTA has psychometric characteristics sufficient for determining the perceptions of adolescents, whose age range between 14 and 18 years.

The purpose of this study is to examine whether adolescents differ in their parental attitudes, life satisfaction and risk taking according to their positive or negative perceptions of adults. The scope of the study is composed of 905 students (434 girls, 471 males) who continue to the State and Private Anatolian High Schools in the Battalgazi district of Malatya. For the purpose of data collection in the study, Perception of Adults for Adolescents, Parent Attitude Scale, Risk Taking Scale for Adolescents, Life Satisfaction Scale and Personal Information Form were used. In the analysis of the data, t-test and variance analysis (ANOVA) were used. As a result of the study, it was found that there is a meaningful difference between the acceptance / affection dimension and the life satisfaction of the adolescents perceived by the adolescents who perceive the adults as highly positive and the adults as the low level positively. In addition, the findings showed that adolescents who perceived adults at a high level of negativity and adolescents who perceived adults at a low level were significantly different from the parental attitudes of the adolescents in terms of the psychological autonomy dimension and the risk taking of adolescents.

The purpose of this study is to examine whether the patterns of high school students’ summer break spending differ according to their gender, grade level, school achievement, maternal education level and father education level demographic variables and responsibilities, resources are managed properly and they are happy. The sample consisted of 554 (Female = 250 male = 304) students who attended Anatolian High School in the province of Malatya during Fall Education 2017-2018. Personal Information Questionnaire, Responsibility Attitude Questionnaire, Time Management Subscale of Academic Self-Regulated Learning Scale developed by the researchers in the research and Short Form of Oxford Happiness Scale were used to determine the demographics of high school students and how they spend summer break. According to the results of the research, a large majority of the students spend their summer break in a family owned field, orchard, shop, work place, etc. or in a paid work place and a great majority of the students want to spend their summer breaks on hobbies, spending time with friends, reading books and traveling. Survey findings show that high school students' happiness, resource management and responsibility-taking scores differ according to how they spent their summer break before and after they started their summer break and how they think about summer break. Teachers are to guide pupils to spend quality time with their parents, to utilize summer breaks and to inform the students in order to gain positive experiences.

The purpose of this study is to reveal the power of the family environment, the loneliness and despair experienced by university students.Participants in the survey are students who continue to the Inönü University Faculty of Education.The study was conducted with a total of 833 students, 487 female and 346 male.The Family Assessment Scale, Loneliness Scale and Hopelessness Scale were used to collect the research data. Pearson Moments Multiplication Correlation Coefficient and Multiple Linear Regression Analysis were used in the analysis of the data in the study.According to the findings obtained, there was no significant difference in the loneliness level of the students compared to the genders but it was found that the hopelessness levels of the male students were significantly higher than the female students. In the students, the role and behavioral control of family environments predicted loneliness in a meaningful level;problem-solving, communication, emotional response, required attention, and general functions are not predicter of them. In addition, problem solving, roles and general functions in students lead to a meaningful level of hopelessness; communication, emotional response, necessary attention and behavioral control are not sought at a meaningful level. ÖzetBu çalışmanın amacı üniversite öğrencilerinin geldiği aile ortamlarının, yaşadığı yalnızlık ve umutsuzluğunu yordama gücünü ortaya koymaktır. Araştırmaya katılanlar İnönü Üniversitesi Eğitim Fakültesine devam eden öğrencilerdir. Araştırma 487’si kız, 346’sı erkek olmak üzere toplam 833 öğrenci ile yürütülmüştür. Araştırma verilerini toplamak için Aile Değerlendirme Ölçeği, Yalnızlık Ölçeği ve Umutsuzluk Ölçeği kullanılmıştır. Araştırmada verilerin analizinde Pearson Momentler Çarpımı Korelasyon Katsayısı ve Çoklu Doğrusal Regresyon Analizi kullanılmıştır. Elde edilen bulgulara göre öğrencilerin yalnızlık düzeylerinde cinsiyetlerine göre anlamlı bir fark olmadığı, ancak erkek öğrencilerin umutsuzluk düzeylerinin kız öğrencilere göre anlamlı düzeyde daha yüksek olduğu görülmüştür. Öğrencilerde aile ortamları ile ilgili roller ve davranış kontrolü yalnızlığı anlamlı bir düzede yordarken; problem çözme, iletişim, duygusal tepki verebilme, gereken ilgiyi gösterme ve genel işlevler anlamlı düzeyde yordamamaktadır. Ayrıca öğrencilerde problem çözme, roller ve genel işlevler umutsuzluğu anlamlı bir düzeyde yordarken; iletişim, duygusal tepki verebilme, gereken ilgiyi gösterme ve davranış kontrolü umutsuzluğu anlamlı bir düzeyde yordamamaktadır.

Bu araştırmanın amacı, üniversite öğrencilerin şiddeti kabul düzeylerinin cinsiyet, sınıf düzeyi, okul başarısı, anne ve baba eğitim düzeyleri ve romantik ilişkiye dair görüşleri, benlik saygısı ve toplumsal cinsiyete yönelik tutumlarına göre farklılaşıp farklılaşmadığını incelemektir. Örneklemi 2016-2017 Eğitim Öğretim Bahar Döneminde İnönü Üniversitesi Eğitim Fakültesine devam eden 705 (Kız= 454 Erkek=251) öğrenci oluşturmaktadır. Bu çalışmada veri toplama araçları olarak Çiftler Arası Şiddet Kabul Ölçeği, Rosenberg Benlik Saygısı Ölçeği, Toplumsal Cinsiyet Rolleri Tutum Ölçeği ve Kişisel Bilgi Formu kullanılmıştır. Araştırma bulguları üniversite öğrencilerinin çiftler arası şiddeti kabul düzeylerinin cinsiyet, okul başarısı, anne ve babalarının romantik ilişkiye dair görüşleri, benlik saygısı ve toplumsal cinsiyete yönelik tutumlarına göre farklılaştığını göstermektedir. Abstract The aim of this research is to examine whether the level of acceptance of violence of university students varies according to gender, grade level, school achievement, parental education levels and romantic relationship views, self-esteem and attitudes towards social gender roles. The sample is composed of 705 (Female = 454 Male = 251) students who attended İnönü University Faculty of Education during 2016-2017 Education Spring Semester. In this study, the Inter-pair Violence Acceptance Scale, the Rosenberg Self- Esteem Scale, the Gender Roles Attitude Scale, and the Personal Information Form were used as data collection tools. The findings of the research show that university students 'acceptance levels of violence among couples differ according to gender, school success, parents' opinions about romantic relationship, self-esteem and attitudes towards social gender roles. In this research, firstly whether students’ attending secondary schools’ 6th and 7th grades secure attachment to their parents changes according to their parents’ gender, preschool care status, number of siblings, grade level, school achievement status and educational level of parents were investigated. Then whether there is a relationship between the level of attachment of children to their parents and the levels of hope and social comparison were examined. The sample of the research was composed of 685 (Female = 368, male = 317) students attending to various state secondary schools in Kayseri Melikgazi District in 2014-2015 Education Spring Semester. Kerns Secure Attachment Scale, Social Comparison Scale, Hope in Childhood Scale and Personal Information Form were used as data collection tools in this study. According to findings; it has been found that the secure attachment of children to their mothers differed significantly in terms of educational levels of mothers and fathers and children’s school achievement and that their secure attachment to their fathers was significant only in terms of school success. The result of simple regression analysis conducted to determine the relationship between secure connections of children to their parents,levels of hope and social comparison indicateda positive relationship between children's secure attachment to their parents, their level of hope and social comparisons.
