... We understand that white people cannot self-identify as allies because they do not have the capacity to appraise their own "ally behavior" (Owens, 2020). Rather, only the marginalized communities with whom aspiring white allies seek to partner can dictate what constitutes authentic allyship (see Goldie et al., 2023;Gorski & Erakat, 2019).
