... The use of music as an occupation for therapeutic purposes was addressed as early as the 1930s in the context of a mental health hospital (Thompson, 1932). The role music can play in therapeutic processes in occupational therapy has been explored in the literature in connection with music therapy (Turner & Tyas, 2012), treatment of mental health conditions (Strauss et al., 2016), neurological conditions (Nicholson & Wilson, 2018), identity and belongingness (Roberts & Farrugia, 2013), and community participation and engagement (Jacob et al., 2009;Raanaas et al., 2019).
