Considering worldwide future emission and CO2-legislation for the Light Commercial Vehicle segment a wide range of powertrain variants has to be expected. Dependent on the application use case all powertrain combinations from Diesel-propulsion only via various hybrids to pure battery electric variants will be introduced. Under this aspect as well as facing global legislation updates and market reguirements a modular approach is shown for the LCV and SUV Segment in the displacement range of 2.0L to 2.3L, which allows flexible adjustment for different requirements. In regard of commercial boundaries tailored technology pack-ages, engine related technical features towards emission- and fuel consumption improvement, as well as electrification measures, in particular 48V-MHEV variants, are defined and compared, with cost-effectiveness and efficiency as essential criteria.

... Simulations for health impact assessment have been done by Mulholland et al. (Mulholland et al., 2022). Gunja et al. made a study based on engine/ATS/vehicle simulations in order to analyze the extent to which new On-Board Monitoring system (OBM) could influence the function of other control systems (Gunja et al., 2022). Ragon and Rodriguez developed cost estimates for diesel emissions control technology in order to comply with forthcoming Euro VII standards (Ragon and Rodríguez, 2021). ...

... Latest research indicates, that the proposed EU 7 regulation comply with zero emissions impact requirements in terms of air quality; i.e. vehicles fulfilling EU 7 have an insignificant impact to the air quality in terms of NO x and particles [20]. For heavier vehicles like the sport utility vehicle (SUV) or the light commercial vehicle (LCV), clean diesel technology has certain benefits and is required, considering a worldwide market [12]. By preparing a proper technology package, therefore, it is possible to gain a carbon dioxide (CO 2 ) advantage with respect to the competitive gasoline internal combustion engine (ICE) at comparable or even improved costs for the customer. ...

... In the second group, a Load Point Shift (LPS) was implemented via a battery model to ensure an equal State of Charge (SoC), which increased consumption (cf. [24,28]) but made objective comparisons possible. Starting from the EU6b baseline shown at the left of Fig. 7, the experiment was repeated in the LowNO x mode only. ...

... Among them, in-cylinder steam assist technology has been proposed in recent years. Based on the Internal Combustion Engine 4.0 proposed by the AVL Co. Ltd., (Graz, Austria) water injection and steam processes are essential to achieving thermal efficiencies above 50% [12]. Developed from water injection technology, in-cylinder steam assist technology recovers thermal energy from engine coolant and exhaust gases and optimizes the combustion and emission features of prototype engines. ...

... Petrol-driven cars showed even a higher share for new registered cars in the European Union in the year 2018 of almost 60%. [1] The fact that a diesel engine has lower CO 2 emissions than a petrol-powered passenger car, resulting from its significant advantage in thermodynamic efficiency, underpins its importance to reach overall CO 2 fleet emission targets [2]. ...

... -EM motor torque required for ES. The maximum electric system power in 48 V-concepts with P0 or P1 configuration is considered in the range of 10-15 kW [31], whereas the maximum power in P2 or P4 configurations is found between 20 and 25 kW [3,7,8,25,32]. The increased system power of P2 or P4 systems results from additional requirements for ED and an increased recuperation potential. ...
