Social studies education is an area in which hundreds of academic papers, articles, and postgraduate theses are published at national and international levels every year. Considering social sciences, used in creating the content of the social studies curriculum, it is evident that there are many disciplines and subjects such publications, which are many in quantity, are associated with, directly or indirectly. This being the case, there is a need to determine the subjects on which the studies conducted in the field of social studies education focus more and those on which they concentrate less. The purpose of this study is to show the usage frequency of the keywords included in scientific articles published in the field of social studies education and determine the subjects the articles contained in the literature concentrate on most. The sample of the study consists of 691 scientific articles published in 153 national and international journals from 2005 to 2015. Document review, which is a qualitative research method, has been used for data collection. The data have been categorized based on subjects through content analysis. The keywords included in the scientific articles published in the field of social studies education have been classified under a number of different themes such as social studies curriculum, teaching methods, approaches, and strategies used in social studies education, student competencies, teacher training, and technology and material use.
