Indeed, relational theory is highly relevant to learning and teaching, and researchers have emphasized that education should focus less on the isolated learner self, and more on the relational (Gergen, 2009;Gergen & Wortham, 2001;Wortham & Jackson, 2012). Street (1984) studied the relational processes involved in literacy, and Barton and Hamilton (1998) built on this research to look at how adult literacy in particular is contextualized and embedded within relational frameworks.
