Aubrey (2004) found that negative sexual consequences were more common in scenes in which female characters initiated sexual activities than in scenes in which male characters initiated sex, while Eyal and Finnerty (2009) reported that female characters were likely to experience more diverse consequences for intercourse behaviors than male characters, and female characters were more likely to be portrayed as victims of sexual relations than were male characters. A more recent content analysis did not find differences in the receipt of sexual consequences by gender (Ortiz & Brooks, 2014). Thus, it is not clear whether the sexual double standard is dissipated or whether it was just not detected, given the methodological decisions of the content analyses, particularly those in regard to sampling. ...
