Marion Linhardt

The dramaturgical and scenical concepts that characterized Berlin's Modern theatre, that have since been deemed advanced artistic products by classical theatre studies, drew their specifics from the varied and up to now seldom examined theatre scene of the early 〉Kaiserzeit〈. This period, on the other hand, can only be understood within its urban context. The transformation of Berlin from a medium-sized residential town to a globally significant city with a population of millions was directly reflected in the city's theatre topography. Changes in urban spaces were reflected in a variety of spectacles, which included, but were not limited to, theatre performances. At the same time, these shows had an influence on the perception and use of urban space.
