The three types of early life abuse measured with the childhood trauma questionnaire (CTQ): sexual, emotional, and physical abuse (Bernstein et al., 1994;1997, may have different implications for later-life physical and mental health outcomes. For instance, in a study of newly admitted adolescent inpatients, a history of emotional abuse, but not physical or sexual abuse, correlated with being cyberbullied immediately before admission to an inpatient psychiatric unit (Saltz et al., 2020).
