This research aims to fill the gap existing around the key role of the interpreter in multicultural contexts. This work offers a panoramic view of the situation of the interpreter in international protection processes in the city of Melilla. Thus, a brief summary of the legislation in force is analysed, as well as the role of the interpreter in the asylum and refuge interviews. To finish with, six interpreters related to this subject in Melilla are interviewed to offer a more faithful view to reality. KEY WORDS: Asylum, Refuge, International protection, Interpreting, Melilla.
