... This suggests that participants feel that their donation is not needed because they assume others will donate or contribute to climate activism. This supports past literature that examines political activism as a public goods game with incentives to free ride (Olson, 1965), and field experiments on activism that demonstrate how that effect plays out in real life when one member of a party's campaign demonstrates they'll exert more effort the other members will intend to exert less (Hager et al., 2020).
