The project of developing or constructing “Mankind” can be described as the process of making “a world of individuals ... disembedded from their stories of the past, disconnected from the context of their places, and detached from the bonds of their communities, and united instead under the rule of science, market and the state.” (Sachs 1992) The price of progress continues to mean a wrenching rupture with tradition—indigenous and other. It demands the acceptance of possessive individualism and the destruction of the commons, both socially and ecologically. Promising “no child left behind,” all granted equal opportunity to join this race of progress, the dominant doorkeeper to the Global Economy today is Global Education.
