... The process of changing one's instructional practice from lecture-based to student-centered is complex; it requires more than just adopting a new technique such as think-pair-share. To support student learning, instructors need to use strategies that both provide opportunities for students to communicate their reasoning, and use this reasoning to develop ideas in class discussions (e.g., MAA 2018; Smith and Stein 2018;Speer and Wagner 2009).
