The Standard Definition Television – SDTV – introduced in the 50 s is still virtually the main standard for analog and digital
television in all countries throughout the world. However, as in the field of computers, modern TV cameras and terminal devices
such as plasma screens and LCD receivers provide for much higher pixel resolution.

A Internet conseguiu ainda complementar a experiência televisiva ao ser um meio dos espectadores acompanharem o programa transmitido, através de chat rooms e comentários em determinados sites ( Abreu, 2007). Esta convergência tecnológica era chamada de Televisão Interativa em dois ecrãs ( Krause, 2003). Podem ser destacados alguns acontecimentos que vieram afirmar a continuidade da iTV: em 1996, a Television Par Satellite (TPS) em França torna-se a primeira estação a lançar serviços interativos totalmente digitais, seguindo-se a sua concorrente Canal+; em 1998, no Reino Unido, a Sky Digital lança o seu serviço com 140 canais, através de satélite, acompanhado de um Guia de Programação Eletrónico (EPG) e de um serviço de tele-compras; em 1999, a então Cable & Wireless já reunia 10.000 assinantes com acesso a serviços interativos; é também em 1999 que a Sky Digital implementa o seu serviço de TV melhorada aplicado ao futebol, possibilitando aos espectadores verem destaques e repetições, acederem a estatísticas e escolherem diferentes ângulos de câmaras durante o decorrer do jogo ( Gawlinski, 2003) ( Abreu, 2007). ...
