... The possible impact of introduced geckos on populations of native lizards is unknown. Fortunately, most native Cuban species of lizards associated with urban environments (Rodríguez Schettino et al. 2013) are not listed in any threat category (González Alonso et al. 2012). Notable exceptions are the Cuban Broad-banded Geckolet (Sphaerodactylus torrei) (listed as Endangered), which is relatively common in urban environments of eastern Cuba (Fong 2017a), and the Cuban Croaking Gecko (Aristelliger reyesi) (listed as Critically Endangered), which may occur in rustic human buildings in western Cuba (Fong 2017b), either of which could be negatively impacted by introduced House Geckos (Hemidactylus spp.). ...

Given that white and pigmentrich skin in anoles are expected to differ both in chromatophore composition and in the reflecting structures they synthesize, we predicted that ( fig. 2) i) differences in expression profiles between white and pigment-rich skin would be larger than those between orange and yellow skin. Furthermore, since chromatographic studies indicate that anoles typically use drosopterins to produce red colors, xanthophylls to produce yellow colors, and guanine platelets to produce white colors (Ortiz and Williams-Ashman 1963;Macedonia et al. 2000;Steffen and McGraw 2007;Alfonso et al. 2013), we predicted that in comparisons between white and pigmentrich skin: ii) white skin would upregulate the guanine synthesis pathway and iii) pigment-rich skin would upregulate the carotenoid (Provitamin-A) and pteridine pathways. Given that prior chromatographic studies in other anole species have suggested that orange and yellow colorations in anoles result from pteridines and carotenoids, respectively, we also predicted that in comparisons between orange and yellow skin: iv) orange skin would upregulate the pteridine pathway, while v) yellow skin would upregulate the carotenoid pathway. ...
