Ascribing authorship of scientific publications to artificial intelligence is a complex and controversial issue. However, it is a challenging and uncertain problem that, given the growing development of artificial intelligence-based technologies that go beyond the performance of purely technical tasks and even contribute to the development of aspects such as the incorporation of scientific research information published in languages other than English, also contributing to potential insights in research, is becoming unavoidable when considering scientific publishing. This paper aims to add to this discussion by arguing that, although this is a challenging and even controversial position, it is inevitable and even ethically desirable to accept artificial intelligence, if it subsidizes sufficiently, as a (co-)author of any scientific publication. It is a matter of starting to think about how this attribution can be controlled and achieved with increasing respect for the ethics of scientific publication.

The prevention and control of the COVID-19 pandemic has caused sporadic suspensions of offline instruction in schools across China. The “School is Out, But Class is On” initiative, started by the Education Ministry of China, is an efficient substitute for regular classroom instruction in this situation. The widespread use of online learning has increased teachers’ digital literacy and experimented with student autonomy, but it has also highlighted a number of issues, including inadequate online learning environments, an uneven distribution of digital teaching resources, and students’ inability to adjust to self-directed learning. With the aim of offering guidelines for effective deployment of online teaching in China as a crisis response plan and offering insight into the further integration of traditional classroom instruction and digital education, we attempt to systematically examine the outcomes of its implementation as well as the challenges it faces in practice. This is done on the basis of a review of existing studies on this online teaching program.

The academic publication takes on an increasingly relevant place to shape, on the one hand, the scholar’s prestige, and on the other, the prestige of the institution to which he or she is attached. In addition, academic publishing is vital for the development of scientific knowledge and the contribution to the community. This paper analyzes several dimensions that may be central to academic publishing in the near future. To this end, in methodological terms, a qualitative approach was favored, namely through the documentary analysis of scientific writings that analyze this topic. The results of this analysis reveal that this is a process in constant and accelerated development, but there will have to be criteria and processes for selecting what is scientifically relevant from what is called “noise” in scientific publishing. Increasing quality will have to be a fundamental element in this process.

ABRACADABRA (abbreviated as ABRA) is a software developed by Concordia University in Canada that focuses on natural spelling and aims to improve English reading ability. This research is based on 129 first graders, 213 second graders, and 275 third graders in the elementary school of Lianyungang Ganyu Huajie Bilingual School. We carried out a one-semester pre-and post-test and quasi-natural experimental research design to explore the effect of ABRA on students of different grades. The study results showed that ABRA improved students’ abilities in all grades to varying degrees, but the impact of the first graders got the most significant. The results of classroom observations and interviews with teachers showed that teachers needed to apply systematic teaching strategies and the control of class attention play a key role in it. To improve students’ English ability, teachers need to effectively improve their ability to apply information technology, especially in English class. Particularly in low-grade classrooms, attention should be paid to the management of class discipline to maintain its efficiency.

Best Evidence of Chinese Education

From the perspective of the development of education, the initial reason for the emergence of schools is to enable students to master specific knowledge and skills required by society. In this process, it is inevitable to undertake the task of cultivating students’ ideology and morality. Before the 18th century, due to the relatively low level of social development and education, the two functions of “teaching” and “educating” were often intertwined in the education process.

... Practical Validation of the ICAP Theory in China: Holistic Module Learning in Shandong 271 Education Group in this issue gives a brief overview of ICAP and suggests that Chinese teachers and instructional designers can use the ICAP framework in observing and analyzing the modes of engagement behaviors of learners to identify problems with learning activity design, in an effort to maximize students' in-class engagement and interaction as well as enhancing the outcomes of learning activities. The authors argue that instructional strategies such as protocol-guided teaching and collaborative group learning for implementing holistic module learning exhibit compatibility with the ICAP hypothesis (Meng et al., 2023). Schools affiliated to 271 Education Group have had successful practice of the holistic module learning model over the years; Nevertheless, there is a lack of theoretical explanation for why this model is capable of encouraging active learning and stimulating higher-order thinking in students. ...

... CIENTIFIC publication is crucial in several dimensions: for the development of science itself, but also for the status of the scientist, the teaching and/or research institutions, not to mention the journals themselves and their publishers (1)(2)(3). Underlying scientific publication is a constant drive to improve the rigor and quality of what is published (4). This is happening in a context of uncertainty, but one in which artificial intelligence is already an increasingly present reality and is rapidly improving, given the growing development of artificial intelligence (AI) based technologies that go beyond the execution of mere technical tasks commanded by humans (5)(6)(7)(8). ...

Meanwhile, those Chinese researchers also stressed the necessity of eliminating the subjectivity of a single evaluation perspective. ...
