Linda Campbell reviews Finding Your Voice: A Woman's Guide to Using Self-Talk for Fulfilling Relationships, Work, and Life (see record 2004-12996-000 ). An underlying theme that takes the reader to the heart of the matter is that of expectations. Finding Your Voice gives a focus to each dimension of living, including friendships, dating, marriage, sexuality, child rearing, career and work, money, physicality, and self-concept. Developmental stages are employed as a context for viewing case scenarios. Expectations of self, others, and self in the world are woven throughout the scenarios and appear in the questions asked. An uncommon feature of this book is that its conceptualizations and content are solidly grounded in a theoretical framework. Each life dimension and each developmental phase are addressed through a three-part model consisting of (a) identifying an individual's thematic road map or self-schema, (b) questioning the schema with new perspectives and alternative ways of being, and (c) adopting new approaches. Although the content does not mention psychological theory, theorists and practitioners alike will recognize the integrative framework. (PsycINFO Database Record (c) 2016 APA, all rights reserved)
